The China Chamber of Commerce for the Import and Export of Textiles recently released a report that, according to the statistics of the Chinese Customs, from January to December 2022, China's clothing (including clothing accessories) exports totaled US $175.43 billion, up 3.2% year on year. In the past three years, China's clothing exports have reversed the trend of declining year by year since reaching the peak of US $186.28 billion in 2014. The export scale in 2022 has increased by nearly 20% compared with 2019, which fully reflects the characteristics of China's clothing industry with great resilience, potential and competitiveness in recent years under the impact of global supply chain and market supply and demand imbalance.

The export of sports, outdoor and cold-proof clothing maintained a rapid growth. From January to December, the export of shirts, overcoats/winter clothes, scarves/ties/handkerchiefs increased by 26.2%, 20.1% and 22% respectively. The export of sportswear, dresses, T-shirts, sweaters, socks and gloves increased by about 10%. In 2022, the export of each month will show the characteristics of high before and low after the Spring Festival. Except that the export of February will decline due to the impact of the Spring Festival, the export of January to August will maintain growth, and the export of September to December will show a downward trend. In December, clothing exports reached US $14.29 billion, down 10.1% year on year. Compared with the decline in October and November, the decline trend slowed down. In the fourth quarter of 2022, the export declined significantly. However, due to the high growth rate in the first three quarters, the clothing export of the whole year still achieved a growth of 3.2%.
